Freshman performers found themselves in the spotlight Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, as the oval hosted four OSS Gold Series divisions as part of its 11-race card.

Mass Production showed a lot of toughness to capture the first division for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings. The son of Muscle Mass-All Time Favourite got away third before going first-over on the way to the half. Themanyofmydreams threw down fractions of :27.3, :58.1 and 1:27.1 in the $105,000 affair, but he couldn’t fend off late pressure from Mass Production who used a :28-second closing panel to win by a length over Themanofmydreams in 1:55.3. Race favourite Scene A Magician was third.

Trainer/driver Rick Zeron’s Rick Zeron Stables shares ownership on the gelding with Jim Walker, Bruno Dipoce and Rene Allard. The victory improved his rookie record to 4-1-1 from eight trips to the track. It was a career-best performance for the career winner of $160,673.

Tycoon Seelster pulled off a 14-1 upset in the second division. Paul MacDonell rallied the Scott McEneny trainee from out of the clouds en route to posting the half-length triumph over Mister Muscle in 1:58. Third prize was earned by Capteur De Reve. Race favourite Rose Run Speedster set fractions of :29, :58.1 and 1:28.2 before rolling off stride and leaving the door wide open for a host of longshots.

Chris Storms of Picton, Ont. owns the son of Angus Hall-Travelin Lavec. It was the third win of the season for the youngster, who lifted his lifetime earnings to $103,500 with the triumph.

Two-year-old pacing fillies also slugged it out in a set of $105,000 OSS Gold Series divisions, with Action Majesty and Aint Three OK winning their respective assignments.

Action Majesty was sent off as the 6-5 favourite, and she didn’t disappoint for Team McNair. Away fourth for driver Doug McNair, the Gregg McNair pupil held that position while Fade and Future Headlines took turns on the lead through fractions of :27 and :56.1. Action Majesty was on the move in the third quarter, and she pressed Future Headlines to the three-quarter pole in 1:24.3. Action Majesty then used a :27.4 closing panel to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Fade in 1:52.3. Yaris Bayama was third.

Bred and owned by Kenneth Sommer of Sheffield, OH, Action Majesty won for the fourth time in just five lifetime starts. She lifted her lifetime earnings to $125,250 with the win.

Aint Three OK survived a first-over trip to post a gusty score in the final Gold Series division on the stakes-filled card. Trevor Henry rallied the Mike Weller trainee to the half-length victory over Bid Writer. Blameitonthenight closed from last to finish third. Windy Sport supplied panels of :27.1, :56.1 and 1:24.1 before fading to finish fourth. The mile was clocked in 1:53.1.
