Harrington Raceway’s leading driver, Ross Wolfenden, notched his 5,000th career win Tuesday night at Harrington aboard Nanticoke Racing and Ron Waller’s Drew Bromac N in the twelfth race
.
It took a strong surge in the final sixteenth of a mile to reel in pacesetter Limpo Nosm to edge clear in a three-way photo for the win.
Wolfenden, 48, also received his award for leading driver at Harrington, his second straight title. With just two days remaining in the 2011 Harrington meet, Wolfenden has 204 wins. Tony Morgan is second with 127, while Allan Davis is third with 118.
“I’ve had a lot of good horses to drive,” said Wolfenden. “I’ve been lucky to drive for some good trainers and that makes my job a lot easier.”
Highlights of the meet for Wolfenden include winning the $100,000 DSBF two-year-old trotting colt final with a horse he co-owns in Windshield, as well as winning seven races at the meet with his pacing mare Go Flyin N.
Wolfenden had two winners on the card, and narrowly lost the featured $22,500 Mares Open with Docdor Libby as No Bad Luck ($3.80, Montrell Teague) won the tight photo in 1:53.3. No Bad Luck is owned by Badlands Racing and George Teague Jr., Harrington’s leading conditioner who also trains the four-year-old Badlands Hanover mare.
