Newcomer Wins Charlottetown Feature

The Big Bite, with Mike Stevenson in the bike, came flying late to nail pacesetter Forever Paradise in a photo finish for win in the feature race Thursday at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Big Bite, who arrives from the Ontario racing circuit, is trained by Thane Arsenault for co-owners Jack Arsenault, Donna McIver, Edward Blaisdell and Deborah Wilson.

Forever Paradise (Marc Campbell) laid down hot fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:27 over a rain-soaked track. Every Day (Brian Andrew) completed the top three finishers. The Big Bite paid $10.20 to win.

Willow Warrior pulled off an upset in the Mares Open for driver Mark Bradley, trainer Brendan Curran and owner Alby Curran. The distaffer stopped the clock in 1:57. For All We Know was second, with General Luckypercy third.

Duchess Ofnormanby claimed the evening’s trot class in 2:02.3. Ken Murphy mapped the winning trip for owner Boyde White. Clifford Murphy is the trainer.

Driver Jason Hughes recorded a driving triple on the program and continues to track down season leader Marc Campbell in the win column at Charlottetown. Hughes moves up to 97 wins while Campbell, who had two winners on the night, sits at 99.

Red Shores released details on their final Thursday program on October 30. The program will be ‘Throw Back Thursday’ with race programs for $1, hot dog and pop for $1.50, second chance draws and more! Post time is 7 p.m.
