The trip was sweet and the end result was even sweeter for Lawmen Reign and trainer/driver Ross Battin in Monday’s $7,000 Preferred 3 for pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Battin got away fourth from Post 2 with Lawmen Reign while Justalittleluck blasted to the lead and hammered out first-half fractions of :28.2 and :58.3. Conflict Diamond made a first-over bid against the leader on the way to the mid-way point, and Battin was quick to grab second-over cover with Lawmen Reign.

Conflict Diamond and Justalittleluck waged war to the three-quarter pole in 1:27.1, but in the end it was Lawmen Reign who catapulted off cover in the lane en route to posting the win by half a length over race favourite Conflict Diamond in 1:56.4. The charismatic veteran, Button Up, rallied to grab the show dough.

Ross and Marg Battin of Monkton, Ontario bred and own the seven-year-old son of Rambaran-Tiger Reigns. The victory was his fifth of the year and the 21st of his career. The lion’s share of the purse bumped his overall cash stash to $140,360.
