"It really is a chance to give back to the industry they love and to possibly make changes they'd like to see come in...that was the way I started. This industry has been awesome to me and I wanted to give back."

On today's episode of Trot Radio, Norm Borg and Standardbred Canada's Chair Jackson Wittup discuss the upcoming nomination deadline for SC Directors, what the role entails and why people should apply. The deadline for nominations is October 25, 2010.

Wittup is eternally grateful for the life that harness racing has given him and hopes that people who feel the same as him will come forward.

"I've been in the industry for 35 years and if somebody says 'have you worked a day in your life?', I haven't," states Wittup. "There are certainly better days than others but I have no trouble getting up in the morning and wanting to go to work."

Members of Standardbred Canada can nominate persons in either the 'Active' or 'Breeder' category and no person may be elected in more than one class of member. The candidate and five members, all in good standing and residents of the region for which they are voting (Atlantic, Québec, Ontario or Western), must sign the nomination form for the candidate nominated.

Full details of nomination and election are available in the October edition of Trot Magazine and on the SC website.

Nomination forms can be accessed by clicking here. The form can be filled out on your computer.

Once all nominations are received by the association, profiles will be available on the director election web page. Ballots will be sent to members on November 5, 2010 for voting.
