Favoured ‘Acton’ Fillies Take ATSS Splits

Two-year-old pacing fillies Acton Noisey and Acton Normal delivered on their pari-mutuel promises in a pair of $9,060 Atlantic Sires Stakes 'A' divisions on Saturday afternoon at Northside Downs

In the first ‘A’ division, the co-favoured Acton Noisey ($5.10), driven by new trainer Darren Crowe, swept three-wide at the third quarter mark around pacesetter Honey Do Jigtime (Clare MacDonald) and the challenging Iona Katie (Gerald Snow), and kicked away to win by two and a half lengths in 2:03. Honey Do Jigtime edged out Iona Katie to place.

The daughter of Harrods-Cora Belle, who was recently purchased by David MacDonald of Halifax, N.S., has won five of her nine starts this year earning $21,117.

Acton Normal ($3.10), driven by Shane Bernard, went wire-to-wire to win her division in 2:01.3 by over six lengths. Our Lady Byng (Kenny Arsenault) finished second and Forthena (Clare MacDonald) inherited third after Force Of Fire (David Jackson) was third placed seventh for causing interfence to Acton Nervous (Greg Sparling) early on.

The victory was Acton Normal's sixth (consecutive) in nine outings for trainer and owner Tom Weatherbie of Charlottetown, P.E.I. The Toofunnyforwords-Call It Life filly has banked $13,922 to date.

A pair of $2,500 ‘B’ divisions went to first-time winners Muzzys Beachnut (Henry Smallwood) in 2:09.3 and Le Petit Chou (Darren Crowe) in 2:06.4.

Silver Dragon ($2.70) was a three and a quarter length winner in this week's edition of $1,000 Winners Over Pace, stopping the clock in 1:58.4. The five-year-old gelded son of Dragon Again-Fancy Art, a winner of six races in 32 starts this year, is owned, trained and driven by L. David Ratchford of North Sydney, N.S. Longshot Woodmere Westerner (Greg Sparling) finished second off a pocket trip and early leader Cruisinart (Myles Heffernan) finished 12 and three-quarter lenghths back in third.
