$2.3-Million Wagered On Jackpot Hi-5

A total of $2,375,530 in new money was wagered into the mandatory-payout Jackpot Hi-5 pool at Mohawk Racetrack on Saturday, October 14.

The carryover coming into the evening was $978,779.

With over $2.3 million plus the nearly $1 million carryover on the line, Preppy Art and driver Doug McNair were victorious at odds of 9/2.

The Jackpot Hi-5 winning combination was 3-4-2-7-5 and a $0.20 winning ticket got back $2,446.33 ($12,231.65 for a $1 ticket).

The top-five finishers from the Jackpot Hi-5 race are listed below.

1st: #3 Preppy Art – 9/2
2nd: #4 Dubious Claim – 2/1
3rd: #2 Kazimoto – 40/1
4th: #7 Homey Joe – 17/1
5th: #5 Rollaroundtheworld – 3/1

The Jackpot Hi-5 wager requires horseplayers to select the top-five finishers in order and features a $0.20 minimum and a 15 per cent takeout.

In the $34,000 Preferred Pace, Jins Shark rallied from off cover to win in 1:51.1.

Sitting sixth, Jins Shark sat as Evenin Of Pleasure posted a :26.3 quarter before yielding to 2-1 favourite Nirvana Seelster into the backstretch. Through a :55.4 half, Nirvana Seelster was challenged into the turn by Fool Me Once from first over, carrying Prescotts Hope and Jins Shark. Timed in 1:23.2, Fool Me Once took the lead in the stretch, holding control until Jins Shark lunged wide approaching the line, edging to a nose victory while Blatently Best slid into third.

A six-year-old gelding by Four Starzzz Shark out of the Real Artist mare Gordons Jin Ms, Jins Shark, winning his 21st race in 98 starts, has earned $373,629 in his career. Competing for owners Aaron Waxman and Liv With Autism Stables LLC, Isaac Waxman conditions the $10.40 winner, who was driven by James MacDonald.

The total handle for Saturday’s 12-race card featuring the Jackpot Hi-5 and Ontario Sires Stakes Super Finals was $4,627,263.

The Jackpot Hi-5 will now start from scratch on Monday evening’s card, which is the final card of the 2017 Mohawk meet. Live racing moves to Woodbine Racetrack beginning Thursday, October 19.
