After years of not hearing much at all about the abandoned Pinnacle Race Course in Wayne County, Michigan, the failed Thoroughbred raceway was in the news this week, as the buildings that remained on site were torn down.

As an article by the Detroit Free Press explains, the abandoned raceway, which is located near the Detroit Metro Airport, was only open from 2008 to 2010.

The 320-acre property is currently listed for sale and carries an asking price of $8 million. The article states the demolition work began late last week. The demolition is not far removed from the raceway’s ‘founder,’ Jerry Campbell, having declared bankruptcy.

The article has cited court documents in which Campbell's attorney, Camille Iurillo, has conveyed that, "In hindsight, the timing for the opening of the track could not have been worse."
