Tortola Sunrise went to the top in Thursday’s $8,500 Preferred 3 for trotters at Flamboro Downs, and that strategy turned out to be the winning one as the gelding cruised to a facile score for Team MacDonald.
In rein to Anthony MacDonald, Tortola Sunrise powered up to take the lead shortly past the opening quarter in :28.4 and once they cleared it was game over for the others. The gelding led through middle splits of :58 and 1:27.3 before using a :30.2 final frame to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Excellence in 1:58. Perfect Lover took home the show dough.
Amy MacDonald trains the six-year-old son of Muscle Massive-Weather Bird for owner Darryl Newbigging of Komoka, Ont. It was the 14th lifetime tally for the career winner of $132,601.
