Fraser’s Feature To Prairie Illusion

Six distaffers faced the starting gate in Friday’s $10,500 feature race at Fraser Downs, and Prairie Illusion came from last-to-first to take home all the marbles for driver Jim Marino.

The five-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Twin B Magical, who started from Post 6, trailed the field at the quarter pole and remained sixth until tipping to the outside just past the half. Call Me Up, in the meantime, shot to the front and supplied the field with early fractions of :27.2, :56.4 and 1:25. Marino had Prairie Illusion driving fifth on the outside at the three-quarter pole, and the mare’s :28.1 closing quarter was good enough to earn her the win by 1-1/2 lengths over Call Me Up in 1:54.1. Credit Card Junkie took home the show dough.

Sent off as the 7-5 favourite, Prairie Illusion improved this year’s record to 2-0-1 from four starts while pushing her lifetime earnings to $158,336.

Friday’s program also saw Nobody Can overcome early interference en route to capturing the first leg of the Spartacus Claiming Series. Trainer/driver Bill Davis rallied Nobody Can to the win by 1-1/2 lengths over race favourite Gramrun Jake in 1:55.4. Anasazzi Road was third best.

J J J Stables of Aldergrove, British Columbia owns the seven-year-old son of Kents On Nuke-Battalia Hanover. His share of the $7,500 purse bumped his overall bankroll to $258,090.
