Yankee Sun, the star of the BM Stable, made no mistakes this week as the nine-year-old campaigner came from well off the pace to win the Saturday feature event in 1:59.4
for driver Kenny Arsenault at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Pans O Silver (Brian MacPhee) was second with Mighty And Strong (Ron Matheson) completing the top three.
Yankee Sun, a son of Yankee Cam-Soleil Groover, was sitting fifth at the head of lane before capping off his late stretch rally to win for the second time in four 2010 starts.
Earlier on the card, Caliban Hanover turned in a 2:04 winning performaning in the $1,400 Open Handicap Trot in line to Corey MacPherson. The five-year-old son of Andover Hall-Crown Lavec advanced to the lead after the opening quarter en route to a one and a quarter length score over Flashy Image (Gary Chappell) and Dunmore Alpha (Edward Smallwood).
The win was Caliban Hanover's first of the season in three tries for trainer Ronnie Gass and owner Wendell MacDonald of Cornwall, PE.
There was an accident one race prior to the top trot, in race three, when CLs Gracious Lady, with Mark Bradley in the bike, made a miscue and fell. Stracor couldn’t avoid the fallen horse and also went down throwing driver Jason Hughes to the track. Fortunately, the horses and drivers were not injured in the spill.
Arsenault, MacPherson, Norris Rogers and Gary Chappell each recorded driving doubles on the day.
