Long Ago took advantage of the passing lane to surge by the favourite and score his second win in a row in the featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot on Wednesday night at Flamboro Downs.

Inside starter Long Ago and driver Bruce Richardson followed the quick leaving Thundering Ovation (Billy Davis Jr.) through fractions of :28.4, :59.2 and 1:29.3 before zipping up the pylons for the two and a half length victory in 1:59.4 over the 'good' track. First over attacker Money Maven (Daniel O'Brian) and Keystone Orion (Dave Boughton) came on for second and third-place honours.

Sent postward as the 4-1 third choice in a field scratched down to seven, Long Ago paid $10.60 to win.

The nine-year-old Duke Of York gelding is owned by John Holding of Kitchener, Ont. and Bryan Montgomery of Fergus, Ont. He notched his second win in three starts this year and 36th lifetime.

The $7,000 Preferred 3 Trot went to the Daryl Roberts-trained Cimeronken, who romped to a five length victory in 1:58 flat with Davis Jr. aboard for owner/breeder Denise Anderson of Mossley, Ont.

Ostinato took the matching Preferred 3 for pacing mares as she rallied home off cover to prevail by three-quarters of a length in 1:57.4. James MacDonald worked out the winning trip for Ancaster, Ont. trainer Jim Wellwood and co-owner Jeffrey Wellwood of Toronto.
