Following a third-place finish at Woodbine in her last, Fade Away ($4.10) made easy work of a last-quarter challenge from Delightful Space en route to her fourth win in five starts, taking the featured $8,800 conditioned distaff pace on Tuesday evening (Jan. 2) at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

The five-year-old Shadow Play mare had no trouble securing the lead and was able to control a leisurely pace early in the mile-and-a-sixteenth event, rating sectionals of :30.1 and 1:01 before easily deflecting a bid from pocket rival Delightful Space (Scott Young) off the far turn. Fade Away edged clear comfortably through the final 150 yards, amassing 2-3/4 lengths of clearance over ground-saving runner-up Style Snapshot (Anthony Haughan) for a 2:08.1 triumph over good going. Wests Lucky Aria (Travis Henry) rallied mildly down the centre of the course to take third.

Bob McClure drove Fade Away, now a seven-time winner, for 2353829 Ontario, Ltd. and trainer Dean Nixon.

McClure and Nixon teamed up in the sub-featured $8,000 distaff pace earlier on the card as well, as Malnificent ($3.60) demolished her seven rivals by 16-1/2 lengths and covered a flat mile in 1:59 for the fourth win of her career and her third in five starts. The driver and trainer of the three-year-old Somebeachsomewhere filly share ownership with Jody Howard and John McClure.
