Currie Sweeps ‘Abbetross’ Divisions

After being put on hold due to last weekend’s cancellations, the second leg of the Abbetross A Claiming Series for $4,500 claiming pacers was contested on Saturday afternoon at Fraser Downs with divisions going to Justin Currie trainees Desperate Measures and Prime Time Bliss

Desperate Measures ($3.90) and driver Jim Marino left from Post 3 and carved out fractions of :27.4, :57.4, 1:26 en route to a 1:56.1 victory over a slow track in the first $5,000 division. Ronny Woo Woo (John Hudon) and Badlands Buddy (Scott Knight) finished second and third.

Chris Currie of Langley, B.C. owns the winning son of Electric Yankee-Deal Offthe Bottom. The eight-year-old gelding, who won his first leg division over stablemate Prime Time Bliss on New Year’s Day, has won six of his last seven starts. The winner of 35 races lifetime boasts a bankroll totaling $286,412.

In the second division, Prime Time Bliss ($25.60) and Brandon Campbell took control from Post 6 and put up a :29-second opener before the popular Red Star Felix (Jim Marino) took over. After following Red Star Felix past the half in :59 and three-quarters in 1:28.1, Prime Time Bliss kicked home to score in 1:58. Boiling Over (Rene Goulet) finished second with Wrangler Classico (Keith Clark) back in third.

Justin Currie shared ownership of the Blissfull Hall-Armbro Knots son with Gerry Hansen of Blaine, Washington before he was claimed from the series for $4,500 by Don M JR Stables. The nine-year-old has won 28 times over the course of his career to earn $227,852.
