ME Committee To Discuss LD 1111

It has been reported that the Maine Legislature’s Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee will be holding a work session on Wednesday (Jan. 15) to discuss bills that could see Scarborough Downs land casino expansion without a statewide referendum.

An article by the Portland Press Herald explains that LD 1111 would allow the track to introduce a casino building to its property as long as voters in the local municipality approve it.

The report has quoted Scarborough Downs attorney Ed MacColl as saying, “There’s no chance that small market commercial racetracks can be prohibited from having modern gaming and still compete with full-fledged casinos. No chance at all.”
