Live harness racing returns to Freehold Raceway on Thursday, January 2 with a 10-race card, which marks the debut of ABC classified racing.

“Feedback has been positive and the new ABC system should benefit both the horsemen and our patrons,” said Freehold General Manager Howard Bruno. “We’re anticipating more competitive racing with fewer prohibitive favourites and short payouts.”

“We’ve classified over 700 horses and applications are still coming in every day," said Freehold’s Director of Racing, Karen Fagliarone. "Purses for the meet will average $40,000 per day.”

Driver Eric Abbatiello and rrainer Vincent Fusco Jr. will look to defend their 2013 meet titles.

For the 62-day winter/spring meet, live racing is scheduled for Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through May 17. The track will also offer special holiday racing on Monday, January 20 and Monday, February 17. Post time is 12:30 p.m.

Qualifiers will take place on Thursday, January 2 at 9:30 a.m.
