Harness Racing's Best of the Decade - Driver

BRIAN SEARS

Harness Racing's Driver Of The Decade

In 2009 third-generation horseman Brian Sears celebrated his fifth straight driving title at The Meadowlands, considered by many to be the deepest driving colony in the world. With $94 million banked over the decade - the third highest total - Sears was the regular pilot for some of harness racing's top performers including triple millionaires Mister Big, Rocknroll Hanover and Muscle Hill.

What They Said About Brian Sears:

"The White Knight just wrapped up his tenth straight Meadowlands meet title, completed the greatest six-year run by any driver in history, became the first driver to win the Hambletonian + Oaks on the greatest single money day ever by a driver, joined the $100 club, passed the $12 million mark for the fifth year in a row, drove his second Horse of the Year, dominated the Breeders Crown, and on and on."

- Ken Warkentin, The Meadowlands

"If you have a HOY candidate, chances are Brian Sears is your choice. He wins big races and saves something for next week. It's no surprise horses like Rock n Roll Hanover and Muscle Hill lasted all year while others have a tough time doing that."

- Dean Towers, owner/horseplayer/blogger

"Brian Sears has been a dominant force among drivers the past six or seven years. A great role model for younger drivers coming along and very good to watch how he can get a horse in a winning position time after time."

- Bill O'Donnell, Hall of Fame driver and president of Central Ontario Standardbred Association

"Brian Sears has amassed an impressive array of triumphs on both sides of the border, including tremendous success in Breeders Crown events. This veteran reinsman cemented his role as one of the sport's leading drivers in the latter half of this decade."

- Adam Mauntah, announcer, horseplayer and blogger

"He would have been a no-brainer had he moved to the Meadowlands earlier than 2003. He's the #1 go-to-guy in the business, the first to $15 million in a season and the first driver to reach $90 and $100 million in the SAME year. This year's Hambo Day was the greatest single day ever for a drvier $1.55 million"

- Bob Heyden, The Meadowlands

"Brian enjoys the respect of the betting public, is appreciated by owners and trainers for the skillful manner in which he conducts his on-track business. Muscle Hill, Rocknroll Hanover, Lis Mara, Cabrini Hanover, Mister Big, Sand Vic, Arch Madness, My Little Dragon-colts and fillies, pacers and trotters, Brian knows what to do when he has a good one."

- Barry Goldstein, owner and breeder
