Drivers Skyward Bound

As some of our drivers shoot for the stars in more ways than one, they've taken the time to share what's going on as they start their cross-country treks. Check out what they have to say in Road to the NDC: Day 4.

Today's the last day of work, and then it's four days off! Most horsemen don't get too many days off as it's a 7 day a week thing. I love my horses but to get some time away with family and getting to be a part of this drivers challenge will be truly exciting! I'm racing three of my own today. Not expecting too much, just hoping they race well. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Charlottetown tomorrow!

Had a pretty good night racing at Georgian Downs, grabbed some cheques and Southwind Luna won the fastest division of the OSS Grassroots for 2yo pacing fillies. My flight is today, pretty excited about it. Having some problem with packing though (see picture) hope I won't be late!

Sundays are usually quiet at our house. Horses are off and I get to sleep in but not this morning! I am off to drive my daughter to work then back to the arena for part 2 of the tryouts. My plane leaves tomorrow around 9:30. Unless my wife offers to help me pack, I will be throwing a few things in her suitcase late tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Even though I am excited to leave and looking forward to the NDC this Tuesday, I do need to remain focused on tonight’s race card. I have three horses racing out of my own barn and it would help to leave on a positive note. I also would like to thank Rideau Carleton Raceway administration especially manager Jean Larose for their sponsorship.

Feeling like a big wig today, parking in the valet at Terminal 3! On my way to PEI with Papa Carl in tow. Up the Credit is in the Founders Cup Tuesday at Charlottetown Driving Park with the three hole! Boom, just like that! At the airport now, sippin’ a $12 pint of Creemore Springs. Going to have supper with good friends tonight in Charlottetown tonight, Sockie, Rabbit and Anita, and we might even get a guest appearance from the man himself from the Premier’s office, Tex MacDonald. Can’t wait for the NDC to start! Charlottetown, here we come!

Good morning! This is the 7th day of working. It’s a beautiful day for racing. My wife and daughter left for PEI this morning and I can’t wait to be there. I’m getting ready to leave for the track, can’t wait to race my two horses on a beautiful day like this. Ciao!

In Alberta Downs today. I’ve got a few drives, one of them being Comes Home First in the 3YO Alberta bred stake for trainer Lance Ward and owner JJJ Stables. He was a sharp winner in the elimination last week and I think it should be a good race today. I’m pumped for my flight to PEI early tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.!
