Statement on Election

Published: June 16, 2014 12:39 pm EDT

Friday June 13th was one of the saddest days of my life. What I watched unfold was both puzzling and upsetting.

But Ontarians have voted, and the Liberal Party will be in charge of our province for the next four years.

So in that respect, congratulations to both Kathleen Wynne and in my case Liz Sandals, for winning the election.

My campaign team worked as hard as they could, and I hope the 11,179 Guelph residents who checked my name on their ballot and the people of horse racing who donated their time and money to my campaign don't feel I let them down and understand how especially difficult this has been to watch unfold.

I remember the day I chose to run in politics very vividly, and it's been a long road from speaking at a rally at Queen's Park with a heavy heart to speaking on behalf of thousands of people in the city I call home.

The new friends I've made and people I have met over the last five weeks are the only thing that makes this loss tolerable.

I can't say enough about how much I appreciate all everyone has done, and the support I have received.

I am a horsemen, and always will be, and somewhere inside me I know I have done all I can for the industry and the people I love.

I was willing to walk away from it all to ensure a future for all of us, and I would gladly risk that again.

I can only hope and pray that Kathleen Wynne recognizes the destruction her predecessor has left in this province and begins putting it back together.

Thank you very much again.

All my friends both new and old and especially my wife Amy for standing behind me and helping me push forward for the last two years.

I would always gladly lay it on the line for all of you again.

Anthony, you didn't win but you still brought racing and the importance of the industry and it's economic impact in Ontario to the attention of the opposition parties and the general public. You put your life on hold and rallied for the cause and we horse people are indebted to you for that. There WILL be another day.

Anthony; It was an honor and a pleasure to work with you for the past 18 months. We did everything we could and went beyond our norms but it was not to be. Thank you for standing up for our industry. Our day will come.

Anthony we all appreciate your efforts. Sometimes in life it's not if you win or lose, but it's simply what you've shown us, the heart and character. We all appreciate your determination and great effort.

Congratulations to the liberal party for your win, which does not always mean everything. If you could open your heart and show some appreciation for Ontario Racing, long-term rather than five year term.

I'llHaveAnother Ontario Needs Racing
Please if you will allow it to.

Anthony,

You want to save the game you love? Forget the slots and FORCE change.

The PC message of cutting 100,000 public servant jobs was poorly communicated to the public. He did not mention for a week or so that he was going to do it through attrition, hiring freeze, etc. The PC message of creating a million jobs using voodoo math was quite simply unbelievable and did not resonate with voters. Ur leader's failure to attend the debate discussing northern Ontario issues was in excusable.

What more could anyone ask for. Thank-you for the effort and support. When one lays all for something they love whether industry or family.... I for one certainly applaud you!
